When nature speaks you better make sure you are ready to listen. Because it just keeps talking, even if you are not ready with your camera! To avoid the loss of a great shot alot of photographers will scout a location. Scouting is not just for photo sessions with people.

When you find something you wish to shoot be aware of the lighting. Study it. Study the place you want to capture. Many people are wrong to think that a person takes one shot and then walks away with THE shot. The leg work involved in most shots is more than I think people understand. (although it is possible to take a shot in passing and have it be awesome, but that is rare.) A good photographer will see something of interest. And then study this place/thing at different times of the day. Then they will come back and snap to their hearts content. Alot of people wonder where they went wrong with a shot and many times its simply lighting.

So the next time you see a great place to shoot do not just snap. Study it! In your mind make it morning and then evening. See where the shadows fall and how they add contrast and depth. Alot of people think great photos are easy, but then that just shows that they are not really photographers!

Wonderful collection of inspiring work Olivia, so honored to be among them! Thank you so much dear!
And I totally agree with what you write about the process involved in capturing a great image. It may seem obvious but for most people it isn't. It still surprises me that most people don't understand the value of fine light and carefully studied composition and just visit a place in bright daylight carelessly shoot around hoping that one of the images will turn out a masterpiece.
